Not all USB storage devices use a block size of 512 bytes.

Powered USB drive recommended.

So NTFS is would make my Mac/PC life easy but no support. Software solution for read/write access on the mac are easy, Macfuse - from Google, and NTFS-3G, but no support for Airport Extreme.

Fat32 has a partition limit of 32 gig, not particle for a 1 terabyte hard drive.

HFS+ is great (no file size limits), but would have to buy Macdrive $50 dollars, which I am fine with, if I know it works.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

This show has quickly become my second favorite show on tv (after the Office). The show just got picked up for the full season, and it continues to outperform the first season.

The story arc for the season is providing great justice to the source material. I wish the writers for Smallville would realize they don't have to create new folk lord to make the material interesting. Exploring the details of the character, especially for a character driven story, can provide enjoyment for the audience. This is even more true because in both cases, the stories about Superman/John Connor are not about their character, but there actions/choices.

The writers are providing great complexity to John's character. Each week, the show has found the perfect mix of "monster of the week" element, progressing the season's story arc, and developing John's character.

Spoiler alert,------

I think this seasons arc will ultimately make John's mother Sara, make a impossible decision, or John will be placed (again) into the position where he has to act, and of course this will have a major effect on the war of the future; meaning Skynet, robot conflict with the T3000 (Sherry Manson's characher) . I think the T3000 may not be a agent of Skynet, but a fraction of a rebellion aka Star Trek NG: borg character One; had to put in a STTNG refence.

--------

Please let me know if you are watching Terminator, if your not watching, you should.

My College Advice

The first couple of weeks feel overwhelming, but it will go away as you adjust. The thing about college is never doubt your ability, just ask yourself, do I have a plan, am I organized enough?

My best advise is to,

Outline the semester-Syllabus are great, they allow you to plan the next 15 to 17 weeks, I wish I had a macbook when I was in college I would have used iCal and iGTD to make daily, weekly, and monthly schedules; paper and pen and a weekly planner work too.

Utilize the breaks in-between classes for reading, research, and studying.

On the reading, you will realize that it doesn't all have to get done at once,

You will quickly learn to prioritize reading based on,
~Need- Is it going to be on the test, you will master skim reading
~Assignments
~Interests

Start your term projects early, plan them out, asked your professors questions,

Go to the research centers, use the colleges resources for research materials

Take good notes
General Studies courses professors tend to give tests based on notes

Remember your professors know your freshman, they know you are only taking general requirements courses. So your knowledge is to be general.

Realize your weaknesses, do something about them. Don't be afraid to ask for help. Tutor centers can be useful.

Take action early, don't procrastinate.

Planning helps prevent stress, less stress means everything is more enjoyable.

This is my sage advise,

Enjoy it
Have fun

Superman: How To Make You Believe A Man Could Fly, Again

WB VP Jeff Robinov says that he wants the movie versions of all of DC's superheroes to "go dark to the extent that the characters allow it,". I think I need to get some people to read this, so I have a audience to write for, why write if noone is reading, yes I write for myself, but I like input, I not the dictating type; well not as much! I’m watching Elizabeth Town right now, its a movie I love! Great music, great story, and an open road. I love movies about the travels of life, and I don’t mean that literal. Stories about how events change courses, or provide new ones, or losses. Choice, we are free to choose, and that’s a choice in itself. Its a great way to look at life, time to time, but way no means a definitive frame; I think that does not exist. But this subject is just insularly to the movie, it touches issues like, family relationships, failure, relationships, and death. Things that stand out to me include, how the son feels about his father ( a great movie about that is Big Fish, one of my favs,). Well the movies over and I got to go so till next time, watch Scurbs my favorite TV ever, now I have been watch it for only year now, but I cant stop now.

Market Efficiency

So, I’m at Borders in Boston today browsing the new non-fictions arrivals and I come across Deep Economics; check out this NY Times article. I thought they had moved passed their stop progress rant, and moved on to helping us find solutions. i.e. progress, or reverting to “Bring out your dead” will pave the way to new, more efficient uses of our resources; if we create it they will buy it. And why is that a bad thing?

I have no idea what to do with a blog

So I created a blog a couple of months ago, but I have only made one post. Why, well I guess the biggest reason is, I have no direction and no audience, and why would I. I am no expert or authority on any subject. I am by no means a writer/blogger, but I want to try to make something of this. I know this blog is 'low key' and basic (b/c I dont really know how to create and run a website entirely) so here whats going to happen.

The direction of this blog will be topics I discuss with friends, family, and colleagues. I'll try to make one post a week. Look for a post on the importance of local commerce.

This is an issue important to my aunt. She has been giving me books about the topic like "The Walmart Effect" and "Big Box Swindle." She is active with buy local and very passionate about ethical consumerism.

As an Economist (B.A.), I intuitively like competition of any variety and know that capitalism is a process of creative destruction. Markets change, and firms compete differently. In this issue, as I see, local shops exit the market mainly due the loss market share to big boxes. Why, well there are many classical reasons why. Consumer preference, lower prices, and changes in demand. My aunt's argument follows that big boxes compete unfairly, deteriorate the local economy, and provide lower quality products.

Do they, or do they just represent a different organizational structure. Big boxes relay on scale of economies of all aspects of their organization to lower operating costs. Lower operating costs provides them a competitive edge over smaller businesses. Is that unfair? No, this is by no means unfair.

Local economies are enduring revenue loss these days. Why, big picture reason, tax revenue sources are based on immobile property and the trend in 'todays global economy' is more mobility. Commerce is online, land and equipment are not as important as information and technology. Sales tax revenue growth is shrinking, if not negative and the future looks worse.

So we have a battle, big box v. local shop! Who provides a bigger benefit to the local economy. Coming soon! I'm going to look into this more.

Third point of the argument , quality. My comment, quality of products depends on the preferences of the consumer, right? Does Walmart decide what quality we want, or does
it impose price demands on its suppliers solely for its own profit margins? Does Walmart have too much market power over its suppliers? Has their been a change in consumer preference, the lowest price, to hell with quality?

Look for more on this soon. I thinks I will be writing several articles on this subject.

Error Installing OEM XP Recovery Disc on New Hard Drive

I have been trying to install my Sony OEM XP disc on a new hard drive, because my current new is about to die!
